Pegasus a weapon used against terrorists – Rahul Gandhi

Must read

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched another attack on the Modi government over the Pegasus row and said the Pegasus spyware “is a weapon classified by Israeli states to use against terrorists”.

Addressing the media on Friday, Rahul Gandhi said, “The Prime Minister and Home Minister have used this against the Indian state and against our institutions. This has to be investigated and the home minister must resign.”

Rahul Gandhi, whose phone number was also among those who were reportedly spied upon using the Pegasus spyware, said, “The only word for this is treason. Home Minister Amit Shah has to resign.”

He further added, “My friends get a call from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) when their conversation with me is to be tapped,”

The Congress on Thursday held protest marches across the country demanding a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into the alleged snooping of phones using Pegasus spyware. Congress has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue.

The party’s state units held protest marches to Raj Bhavans in different states over the “blatantly unconstitutional and ruthless phone hacking incidents”.

Congress workers organised marches as well as sit-in protests at Jammu, Jaipur, Kolkata, Vijayawada, Patna, Ranchi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Raipur, Lucknow and Dehradoon, the party said in a statement.

Congress leaders and workers demanded the immediate resignation of Amit Shah and an inquiry into whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a role in the matter and a Supreme Court-monitored judicial inquiry.
