PM inaugurates Saudi funded Urban Development Project for NWU

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (27) inaugurated the Urban Development Project for the North Western University (NWU) of Sri Lanka, which is funded by the Saudi Fund for Development.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa unveiled a plaque marking the inauguration of the project from Temple Trees online while the function was held at the North Western University premises in Kuliyapitiya.

The estimated cost of the project is US$28 million. The Saudi Fund for Development has agreed to provide the sum as a concessional loan.

This project is being implemented at the Kuliyapitiya and Makadura Campuses of the North Western University.

Rs.1,942 million is expected to be spent for the Kuliyapitiya Campus and Rs.1,973 million for the Makadura Campus while another Rs.262 million has been allocated for the purchase of equipment for the existing faculty building complex.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new library building at the Kuliyapitiya Campus of the North Western University was held today to coincide with the inauguration of the project. The cost is Rs.259 million.

Members of Parliament B.Y.G.Ratnasekera, Samanpriya Herath, Ambassador of the Government of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka Abdul Nasir bin Hussein Al-Harti, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development Sultan Ar Marshad and Acting Vice Chancellor of the Wayamba University Dr. Sanjeewa Bowatta were present at the foundation laying ceremony.
