The Anunayake of Malwatte Chapter Most Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera yesterday said that if the Prime Minister resigns or is removed by a No-Confidence Motion to establish an All Party Government, the allegations levelled against him by the international community at the time of the defeat of terrorism could be re-activated.

The Thera said that decisions in this regard should be taken carefully at a time when allegations are being made by the UN Human Rights Council.

The Anunayake Thera made these remarks when a group of SLPP MPs met him at the Malwathu Viharaya yesterday. He said that if the Rajapaksas were to be accused of theft, they would have to prove it clearly, otherwise such allegations would not be justified.

The Thera said that the establishment of an Interim Government would clearly create problems and shortcomings in the implementation of law and order and that it was timely to study and understand the problems posed by these three types of governance in India.

“Any persons can make allegations. What is more important is to prove them”, he said.

Although some people criticised Mahinda Rajapaksa for not doing anything in the post-war period, he emphasized that it should not be forgotten that there was peace, political stability and some economic growth during that time.

Parliament, Judiciary and foreign influence clearly make an impact on the exercise of power in South Asian countries and that the situation after the defeat of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan should be taken into account.

The Anunayake Thera is of the view that the former Army Commanders and others will also face problems if accusations levelled at the Prime Minister for ending 30 years protracted war are re-activated. “Those who are making various proposals should think of their possible consequences too, he said.

He said the main reason for the current economic crisis was the lack of foreign reserves and the Finance Minister was working on it.

He said that India was supporting us and more countries would come to our aid in the future.
