President Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested the Malwatu and Asgiri Mahanayake Theras and the Diyawadana Nilame of the Dalada Maligawa to consider holding a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic in March next year to coincide with the 75th Independence Day and invoke blessings on the country and the people. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena handed over the letter containing the relevant proposal to the Mahanayake Theras and the Diyawadana Nilame on Saturday (17).
The Prime Minister visited both the Malwathu and Asgiriya temples to hand over the letter to the the Mahanayake Theras.
The Mahanayake Theras have informed the Prime Minister that after discussing the relevant proposal with the Karaka Sangha Sabha, a reply will be given.
The last time an exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic was held was in 2009. Accordingly, no exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic has taken place for 13 years.
