Prison karatekas steal limelight at Meiji Cup

The Karate team of Prison Department excelled at Meiji Cup Sri Lanka open Karate championships as they won 16 gold medals, two silver and three bronze medals. The event was conducted by Meiji Shotokan Karate Association at the Alfred F.Pieris Indoor Stadium, Wennappuwa recently. Prison Department Karate team instructed by chief consaltant Shihan Prasanna already selected for the Jujutsu Federation official photo of the 2023 calender based on their performance.

Chandana Ekanayake the Assistant Prison Commissioner General and media spokesman of the Prison Department said over 68Kg black belt open, Black belt open Katha, over 50Kg Black belt Katha and Kumithe, over 45Kg black belt Kumithe, Over 40Kg Kumithe weight class karatekas were able to win medals at this Meiji Cup championship and it was a real boost for the Prison Karatekas.

The chief Karate Instructor of the Prison Karate team Shihan Prasanna having International black belt grade eight well recognised instructor and he also Is the head of Jujutsu Asian region, head of Kobodo South Asian region, official member of International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) and his service has been a great strength to the Prison Karatekas added, Ekanayake who also the senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Athletics.
