Seek int’l assistance to procure COVID-19 vaccines – Sajith Premadasa

Must read

The Government should seek the assistance of the international community to bring down COVID-19 vaccines, urgently need medicine, oxygen and other medical equipment, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said.

The Opposition Leader was speaking at a meeting held at Tissamaharama during the weekend. He said the Government should urgently provide medical equipment, which are lacking in hospitals with the support of the international community to save the lives of the people.

Premadasa said the Government should also focus attention towards the shortage of beds in hospitals. “Many patients are kept even in verandas and the corridors of hospitals.

The Government should supply special medical beds required by serious COVID infected patients and normal beds,” he commented.

The Opposition Leader said that health reports have indicated that the COVID Delta variant is spreading fast and as a result the country’s entire health sector is at risk.

He said the Government should always be in touch with the World Health Organization (WHO) and inform them about the country’s current health situation and also the country’s needs at this crucial juncture.

Responding to a question, the Opposition Leader criticised certain allegations made by some Parliamentarians that the Coronavirus is spreading in the country due to the protest campaigns, and said if three statements are true, how come some Government Parliamentarians too got infected with the virus without engaging in any protest campaigns.
