Six candidates vie to be president of FSL

Six candidates, including former president Umar Jaswar and former MP J. Sri Ranga are contesting for the post of president at the 2022/23 Football Sri Lanka (FSL) elections, scheduled for January 14 at the Sports Ministry Auditorium in Colombo.

The nominations for the FSL election closed on January 20 and altogether 40 candidates have submitted their nominations for 10 positions.

Former Secretary Upali Hewage, Emmanuel Arnold, Jagath de Silva and Sampath Perera are the other four candidates who are contesting for the post of president.

However, the elected office-bearers will be in office only for five months as the next election should be held on or before May 31, 2023, according to the Sports Ministry regulations.

The nominations for the FSL election:

President: Umar Jaswar, Upali Hewage, Emmanuel Arnold, Jagath de Silva, Sampath Perera and J. Sri Ranga.

Vice-Presidents: T. I. Uduwara, Priyantha Weerasingha, R. Yogaraj, S. M. Thawfeek, K. P. P. Pathirana, Emmanuel Arnold, Jagath de Silva, Dilshan Nagahawatte, A. F. Sellar, Abdul Manaff, T. Kanthan, Deepika Kumari, Sampath Perera.

Secretary: T. H. S. Indika, Upali Hewage, Emmanuel Arnold, Jagath de Silva.

Treasurer: T. Suthagar, Lakshitha Wijesuriya, A. Nagarajan.

Deputy Secretary (Technical): S. R. M. M. Azard, Abdul Manaff, M. H. M. Nawzil, Anton Joy.

Deputy Secretary (Administration): K. J. de Perera, T. Varatharasan, T. Kanthan, Deepika Kumari, Anton Joy.

Assistant Treasurer: M. M. N. Hassen, Shabbir Raheem, A. Nagarajan, W. M. Nimal, J. L. M. M. M. Miranda.
