Three Police teams have started a special investigation with the support of the Intelligence Department to arrest two robbers who stole the handbag of an officer of the US Defense Department who is working at the American Embassy.The robbers after snatching the handbag had fled on a motorbike.
This robbery took place on October 29 at Gregory’s Road, in the Kurunduwatta Police Division, Colombo 7,This American officer lives in an apartment complex nearby.
This robbery took place in the evening when the officer who had participated in a ceremony was walking back to the apartment complex where she resides.
Police say that the two robbers who were travelling on a motorbike tried to snatch her gold chain. Police said the robbers stole her hand bag after failing to snatch her her gold chain.
Her credit cards and mobile phone were in the bag.Police disclosed that the Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne had been informed about this by the US embassy officer.
Accordingly, a team of officers including Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Colombo Central Division G.H. Marapana had gone to her residence and recorded the complaint.
