Teenager Dinupa in SL Squad for UAE Sevens

Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) National Selectors yesterday named 19-year-old Dinupa Seneviratne in the touring squad for the Asia Rugby Sevens Series third leg which begins at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday.

The dashing Seneviratne was a revelation for D. S. Senanayake College in both formats of the game where he spearheaded his team to emerge joint champions with Vidyartha College in the All-Island Inter-Schools Under-20 Sevens Tournament in Kandy.

Meanwhile, Richard Dharmapala and Ramesh Fernando have been left with Sri Lanka Army SC’s Sudaraka Dikkumbura coming into the final squad, which will be once again led by Srinath Sooriyabandara.

The Sri Lanka Sevens Rugby Team: Srinath Sooriyabandara (Captain), Chatura Senevirathna, Adeesha Weerathunga, Akash Madhusanka, Anjula Hettiarachchi, Tarinda Ratwatte, Darshan Dabare, Mithun Hapugoda, Kavindu Perera, Nigel Ratwatte, Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Dinupa Seneviratne.

Standby players: Richard Dharmapala, Shasika Fernando and Ramesh Fernando.

Officials: Commodore P. A. S. K. Pitigala (Manager), Nilfer Ibrahim (Head Coach), Shafin Majid (Physiotherapist), Sanka Dishan (Masseur), Group Captain Nalin de Silva (Chairman Tournament Committee), Col.
