Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on a two day official visit to Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Minister of External Affairs Dr. AK Abdul Moman held a bilateral discussion in Dhaka on 19.03.2021.
The meeting focused on further enhancing diplomatic, trade and investment ties between the two countries. 2022 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa drew attention to the recent economic growth in Bangladesh and said that many Sri Lankan investors are currently investing in Bangladesh. Attention was also drawn to the strengthening of the Joint Consultative Commission with a view to enhancing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
This Joint Advisory Commission will be chaired by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries. The discussion was attended by a number of senior government officials including the Secretary and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
