Must read

A senior Government Minister said three members of the Election Commission had not attended the meeting to set the date for the Local Government Election and this has raised a serious issue regarding the decisions taken there. The senior Minister further stated that there was not even a quorum in the meeting to set the date for the Local Government Election.

After accepting the nominations related to the Local Government Election, a meeting of the members of the Election Commission was called on Saturday (21) to decide the date of the voting.

It was stated that only the Chairman of the Election Commission and one other member participated.

Although the Election Commission stated that the decisions were made by contacting the members who did not participate in the discussion over the phone, the Minister pointed out that the Election Commission cannot make decisions in that way.

The Minister further said due to this situation, a question has arisen regarding the legality of the meeting held to decide on the election date.
