Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday afternoon vested with the public the ‘Tomlin Park’ and the ‘Urban Car Park’ built for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.
These parks have been created under the Strategic Urban Development Project by the Urban Development and Housing Ministry.
The World Bank has provided Rs.374 million for the construction of the Tomlin Park, which consists of rooms and sanitary facilities and 16 stalls for the benefit of pilgrims.
The Prime Minister then visited the Sahas Uyana, an urban parking area and public park and unveiled its plaque. The park also has an open-air theatre, a handicraft mall, a dining area and a children’s park.
The Sahas Uyana was built at a cost of Rs.531 million with World Bank assistance.
Anunayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Wendaruwe Upali Thera while delivering an Anusasana said that the Kandy City was founded in 1312 during the reign of King Parakramabahu IV. Therefore, during the time of the Buddha, Savathnuwara, Rajagaha, Kimbulwatta and other Sacred Cities were inhabited.
“Today, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is making great efforts to take this country towards prosperity. We can have many rulers but we need leaders. Concepts and attitudes are especially needed in the development of a country,” the Anunayake Thera said.
“If the country is to develop, there are four factors that need to be addressed. The first thing is to think about the country. The second is to think about their duty. Third is the training to take on the attitude of success and achievement while undergoing emotional states. So we have to fulfill our responsibility. We need to understand the challenges we face in the country,” the Anunayake Thera added.
“Therefore, we as citizens should support it. What is really important is to support the Government that has been elected for five years. So we need to practice patience, we need to engage in constructive criticism, also we need to appreciate good work,” the Anunayake Thera said.
