Ambassador Liyanage expresses gratitude to Russia for their patience

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Russia Prof. Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage said that it was a great diplomatic achievement for Sri Lanka to be able to quickly resolve the issue of the detention of a Russian Aeroflot aircraft in Sri Lanka.

As the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, she expressed her gratitude to all the Ministers, Members of Parliament, Attorney General, officials and airport authorities who took immediate action in this regard.

Liynage pointed out that Russia is a very important country for Sri Lanka in all respects. When queried she said that she was informed of the Enjoining Order issued by the Russian government on June 3 suspending the departure of a Russian aircraft from Sri Lanka and that she had been informed by the Russian government in this regard. The ambassador recalled that she had requested the Russian government to give her some time to resolve the issue, adding that the Russian government had given her time to resolve the issue and that it was finally possible to resolve the issue by Monday.
