Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said it was not proper to comment on economic issues with narrow intentions under the cover of Parliament Privileges.

He said it was the duty of responsible persons to be more cautious in issuing false statements which suggest that there are problems at a time when the financial and banking system of Sri Lanka is stable.

The Governor said that some statements made regarding the banking system were incorrect and that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank had issued a special statement to the public and all parties confirming that the banking system was stable and the operations of the state banking institutions were running smoothly.

The Governor also reminded everyone that it is the responsibility of any recognized politician not to spread false information in order to achieve narrow political objectives.
