The Modara Police have initiated an investigation regarding the disappearance of 17,820 kilos of rice worth about Rs.3 million which was being transported by five trucks to be used as animal feed.
Investigations have revealed that the rice stock went missing after it was brought from a warehouse in Wattala Elakanda to the relevant company premises in Modara.
The Police say that after weighing the stock, the lorries are parked for an hour or two outside the company premises.
When the rice lorry was brought back into the company, the lorry was weighed again with the scale and due to the fact that the weight was less than the original weight, information about the theft of rice was revealed.
