A week-long Sathi Pirith chanting held at Anuradhapura Sacred Mirisawetiya compound to invoke blessings for the eradication of the COVID-19 pandemic from Sri Lanka and the world culminated on Monday (13) evening after conducting a special Buddha Pooja ceremony.

The Presidential Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs jointly organised the Pirith chanting that continued day and night from September 6 for a week with the participation of members of the Maha Sangha.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister of Development Coordination and Monitoring and State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development Namal Rajapaksa, Minister S. M. Chandrasena, State Minister Thenuka Vidanagamage, State Minister of Rural Development and Sports Infrastructure Improvement, State Secretaries, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva and officials participated.

Members of the Maha Sangha, including Most Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasabhidana Nayaka Thera, Chief Incumbent, ‘Atamasthanadhipathi’, Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayake Thera, Chief Incumbent, Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Ven. Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Thera, Chief Incumbent, ‘Mirisawetiya’ Temple participated in religious activities on the final day of the Sathi Pirith chanting ceremony.

Adhering to health restrictions, only a limited number of invitees attended the culminating ‘Hamara Deshanawa’ of the Maha Sangha who also delivered Anushasana on the occasion.
